It is a simple but ingenious design; the Coravin System uses a hollow needle that is injected through the cork to extract the wine. The bottle is then filled with argon which is an inert gas that is in the air we breathe. Once the bottle is pressurized the wine flows through the needle into your glass. Once your done pouring wine the needle is removed and the cork reseals itself.

The Coravin System work best with natural cork found usually found in most premium wines, including closures made of agglomerated or multi-piece natural cork. It is not intended for use on synthetic corks since they are unlikely to re-seal completely which may allow some oxidation.
